Q. What is a bail bondsman?

A. Bail Bondsman is a licensed individual with the Department of Criminal Justice Services who pledges money or property for the appearance of a defendant (bailee) in court.

 

Q. What is a bail bond?

A. Bail Bond is a financial guarantee that the defendant will appear for all scheduled court dates, and agree to all terms and conditions on recognizance while on bond.

 

Q. What is a recognizance?

A. Usually issued by a magistrate/judge, which states terms and conditions while released on bail.

 

Q. How is a bondsman paid?

A. Premium is paid between the amount of 10% and 15% of the face amount of total bond. The bond premium is non-refundable, and is paid at the time of posting bail.

 

Q. What is collateral?

A. Collateral is anything of value, including but not limited to: deed to a house, title to a car, etc. to financially secure a bail bond. Collateral is to be returned when case has been finalized and bond fee is fully paid.
